Frequently Asked Questions
R-Value
All windows are not created equal!!
Windows and Doors have an R-Value, just like your walls and roof. You can increase this R-Value to as high as 8.0 on windows and 16 on doors by taking advantage of the modern technology available to you when you purchase quality products. The savings you’ll experience over the lifetime of your home will be considerable.
The Canadian Standards Association (CSA) has standards for energy ratings. If you'll compare, you'll soon discover that not all windows are created equal. These standards are for Air Tightness (A), Water Tightness (B), Wind Load Resistance (C) and Forced Entry (F). The minimum level is represented by A1, B1, C1, and F1. When choosing your window, check how that window tested in a random lab testing.
There are International Quality Standards. You've probably heard of ISO 9002. These are very stringent standards that manufacturers must meet in order to qualify for ISO certification. Make sure the company who manufactures the windows you choose for your house have obtained this certification. The brochure should have information from The Canadian Window and Door Manufacturers Association (CWDMA).
